The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences has entered into a 3-year contract with the Board or County Commissioners in Indian River County to cost share 10 citrus best management practices.  The funding available per year is $250,000 for Indian River County citrus growers and certified caretakers.  The maximum amount per applicant is $50,000/year.  The ten practices, found in the Indian River Area Citrus BMP Manual, that are cost sharable are the following:

·         Aquatic Weed Barrier

·         Chemigation Infrastructure

·         Conversion to Flash Board Riser Water Control Structure

·         Conversion to Low Volume Irrigation System

·         Grade Stabilization

·         On-site Water Detention/Retention

·         Permanent Agrichemical Mixing Facility and/or Equipment Washdown Facility

·         Portable Agrichemical Mixing Station              

·         Precision Application Equipment

·         Water Table Observation Well

In order to apply for these funds, the applicant should contact the Indian River Soil & Water Conservation District (IRSWCD), (772) 770-5005.  Completion of the following documents, available at the IRSWCD, is necessary:

1.        Citrus Grower Best Management Practices Checklist

2.        Notice of Intent to Implement

3.        Application for Cost Share

Indian River County applicants are required to attend a BMP educational function sponsored by the University of Florida.
